"Not found any [active partition] in HDD"

I've just installed Knoppix onto hard-disk (or at least, I've attempted to) and upon trying to boot I get the message "Not found any [active partition] in HDD".

The machine doesn't have a floppy drive so I couldn't create a boot disk.

The drive is 4310MB with 3500MB setup as ext2 or ext3 (can't remember which I chose... whichever was default probably) and the rest as a linuxswap thingy.
(Originally it had a 2GB Windows partition on the disk, but I cleared that with the Q-thingy which Knoppix has.)

Near the end of the installation it mentioned something about booting and Windows. I selected No because it's going to be a pure Linux machine.
Then it mentioned a warning about my video adapater.
(The graphics card is a 32MB Geforce 2 MX, the monitor is a ~ten years old 12/13" AOC thing~)

The installation seemed to finish okay, so I shutdown, removed the Knoppix CD and rebooted, but obviously it hasn't worked properly or the system would be booting.

Please help... It's taken long enough to get this system built & ready, and I really would like to get it finished today.
(Well, usable, at least... it wont be finished until I can afford a network card, USB adapter & mouse :/ )

Okay, so I used the search and found this thread

If lilo had previously been correctly installed, your PC should now boot to your HD install.
So I'll try doing that and hopefully it'll work

Hooray, it gives me a boot menu and is now booting into Debian.
