needed to configure network printer.....
hallu all....
i need help on configuring/setting up printer. i am using a network printer and am now trying out using knoppix version 3.4. the kde printer wizard guided me along and when it came to a particular page, im stuck....
it asked for printer address--->is it the ip address of the printer or juz the name of the printer ?
it also asked for the port....again ?
there are a few options but i don really understand wat it wants.
i really need the printer configured....
if anyone could kindly help me, ur help is greatly appreciated...
thnx,
~ira~

In conjunction with the question for the port, I would bet it is the ip-adress.
For the correct port-number, I don't know.
If your printermanual hasn't a hint, or the manufactors web-page, you could try to use nmap, to scan the printer for open ports:
with printer_ip being 192.168.99.11 or whatever.

Hai again ira
I did some checking on printer server. The ip is actually the ip of the print server ( that small box) that connect from your hub/switch/router.... to your printer. If the box doesn't exist than it's not called printer server. So do the port, belongs to that box. Try googling on type of your print server and find the manual somewhere. Perhaps under your boss table.

631 is the port used by cups, the common unix printing system, to use.
So I woulnd't forget about that, but insert into the browser:
Code:
http:// 192.168.x.x:631/
That's at least the startingpoint for configuring the cups-printing system.
BTW: this singlish is very hard to understand for me. Could you try to use a language, where I find at least a dictionairy for?

Kein Problem, ira, MSN erklärt natürlich so einiges...
You try to use a network printer, without having the network configured?
