Please change /sbin/init to a symlink to...

In addition to using the Knoppix CD, I have Knoppix loading via PXE, from a tftp server with various other bootable images. A PXE image selection menu list the various images that can be booted.

In addition to using the Knoppix desk top, I am looking at using Knoppix as the core for various other special purpose boots e.g. a Kickstart or Yast like system installer, based on Knoppix and shell scripts instead (see cAosity.org for sample shell script installer.) The goal is to provide a single build server and PXE boot for installing multiple different distros.

Changing /sbin/init to a symbolic link to /init would allow init to be placed in the miniroot initrd file. This would thereby allow different system startup configs to be selected from the PXE menu -- without any changes to the core CDROM image (because the pxelinux.cfg/default allows different miniroot initrd's to be specified.) As a default, the /init could simply link back to say /sbin/initKnoppix which might be the new name for the original /sbin/init.

You don't need that, just change linuxrc to create symlinks for /sbin/ too (like for etc/). Also as sbin is not big (16 MB here), you could just do a cp -a /sbin /ramdisk/

    mount --bind /ramdisk/sbin /sbin

And then do whatever you want.

    ........

but if I now remember correctly init is already set as init=/etc/init, so just changing that file should be enough.
