Sorry Newbie: Trying to change wlan defaults on Bootable CD
Sorry Newbie here. I am trying to get my WIFI working and don’t like what I have to do to get it to work.
1) Rename my AP’s SSID to "linux-wlan".
2) Disable any WEP on my AP.
3) Reset my AP.
4) Start the computer running Knoppix with WIFI device installed (I have a D-Link DWL-650 PCMCIA WIFI Card).
After doing all this, I am up and running. Don’t like it one bit.
I am pretty sure I can change the settings in “etc/pcmaia/wlan-ng.opts” but then of course I cannot save them to CD.
How can I make the necessary changes to Knoppix without changing my AP’s setting? Is there a way to have the changes affect future boots (would prefer to still boot from CD)?
TIA
Jim H

What version of knoppix are you using?
The just released v3.2 has a save configuration feature that would put a _sh script and a compressed config file on your HD (you pick the partion). When you reboot you type 'knoppix myconfig=scan' without the quotes and hit enter and all you tweaking to get you harware working will come back and it all should be good.

I am currently running 3.1, I think. I will try 3.2. Thanks for the tip.

Found it. Should have searched the forum a little better before posting. My bad!

I got the original CeBIT rip in DE and I'm very satisfied with it. There seems to be less problems with it than the EN versions.

Well I get my WIFI working without changing my AP's SSID and disabling WEP with v3.2. Now I only need to figure out how to save mt settungs.
