    why does Knoppix crash?

    Dear all,

today I installed both Knoppix 3.4 and 3.6, each twice, on my Acer TravelMate 290 and everything went well -- except that when I use it after installation, the screen freezes after some minutes without warning, and neither the mouse nor the keyboard work anymore. I cannot see what may trigger this, please let me know if you know what might be the reason.

    Thank you very much,
    Nils

    crash

    hi,
i notice that it hapen with me to and others, i notice that it is caused by konqueror 3.3, kdelibs4 and the base of kde3.3. here we cant install knoppix 3.2 or better, it is full unstable and not usable after hd-install, you will get a better stable knoppix with knoppix-3.1 and pat-get insall kde-3.2.2, kde-3.3 is nice but not usable here, i dont know if it will get better soon? i hope!

have you tried running it with scsi disabled?

i did an HDD install of 3.4 on my acer 290 once, didnt have any issues. but i never really found a use for it so i took it off.

if you need a static linux install, try straight debian or suse

knoppix is only good as a compact OS coupled with a USB stick for setting mobility. IMO.
