ntfs write support in linux is buggy at best
It has only been very recently that linux had any ability to accommodate NTFS at all. Until recently, we were told that all of this was impossible. There is a new "captive ntfs" support out there that provides limited NTFS write functionality. A few brave souls have tried it, and they say that it works. There is a buggy install script in knoppix 3.4 and 3.6 to install it, but it always hangs my machine. Do a search for "captive NTFS" in this forum, and you'll find a post where eco2geek, one of our most talented contributors, tells you where to find and retrieve the needed drivers from your Windows installation to work around this script problem. Also, the 2.6 kernel is supposed to have more NTFS support, IIRC.
Here, more than anywhere else, be aware that this is experimental software, and many people here would not even attempt what you are doing. Good luck, and let us know what happens.
