cannot run executable files

i just installed knoppix to my hard drive and i am having issues running executable files. what am i doing wrong? can someone please help me?

BTW yes i have the linux version. and if u need to know the programs ive tried running are aol instant messanger and winrar

Did you install them? Or are they just in a directory?

Try typing /directory/name/program

how do i install them? they just came in .tgz files that i extracted.

move the executable files to /usr/bin

that will alow normal calling of the file.
