Is it sda1? Do: dmesg|grep sd to find out.
    if it is, do:
    su
    mkdir /mnt/sda1
    mount -t auto /dev/sda1 /mnt/sda1

    dmesg|grep sd

    OUTPUT:
    Info fld=0x0, Current sd0b:00: sns = f0 3

of course i had make a dir called sda but the dev is the important thing not the dir-name.

for dev i tried diferent names such as: sda1 sda sda2 - 7 sdax sdb sdb1 and so on

    try to isolate the problem

    try to isolate the problem

try cd based boot 3.6 and try to mount the usb based hdd and see the problem continues.

try cd based boot 3.4 and try to do the same.

hook the usb based hdd before you boot the system.

see the results and you should have the clue to fix it.

    hope this helps.

Not very promising. Can you see it with qtparted?

Well, sorry, but sometimes it's difficult to tell how much people have experience with linux.
I suppose there's no point asking if the drive is partitioned&formatted

    qtparted couldn't find the HDD

The USB-HDD had 1 Partion and is formated in FAT32

P.S. the USB-HDD works on Redmond and my Suse Workstation on the fly, what's the next step. Kernel 2.4.27
