Load lirc at startup ?

I have a HD install and also installed Lirc but i cant get Knoppix to load the driver at bootup

Any helps ?

A LIRC kernel module must be installed and compiled. This also requires the installation and unpacking of the Linux kernel sources (140 MB!).

(This is really one of the worst parts of Linux, that kernel modules are not binary compatible. Which end user wants to mess around with 140 MB kernel sources?)

I also wanted LIRC but skipped it as it involves kernel sources.
