It is merly a number to change the way the random generater works. unless you use things crucial to a random number, then it not changing is fine.Originally Posted by blipblipblip
I use knoppix live from the cd and a saved config file. Recently I noticed a directory named .mcop in my home directory, with only one file in it - called random-seed. Opening the file shows a long random alphanumeric sequence. Using a saved config file this random seed never changes, however running purely from the cd results in this changing every time it boots.
What is this file and would it be bad for it to be the same every boot?
Btw-deleting the directory before saving the config file results in a random seed every boot.
