    new ParallelKnoppix

    There is a new version of ParallelKnoppix available that has a simplified configuration routine. Also a tutorial with lots-o-screenshots that shows how to get it running, and a little paper that discusses a non-trivial example.

    There is a Knoppix 3.8-based version of Parallelknoppix out. Being able to use apt-get to add packages is really cool. This is an experimental version.

    There is a new stable version out. This has an improved setup routine. I had a 2 node cluster running in 4 min 15 seconds, including the time for all computers to boot. Now includes a kernel regression example for Octave.

    There are a couple of things that might interest people doing their own remasters. One is that the font of Xdialogs can be improved by commenting out the

    XDIALOG_HIGH_DIALOG_COMPAT=1
    export XDIALOG_HIGH_DIALOG_COMPAT

    lines in the relevant scripts. Maybe this has some bad effect I'm not aware of, but it works fine on the hardware I use.

    The second is that there is a ParallelKnoppix/Remaster directory that contains 3 scripts that help to make remastering quite simple. This is nothing that hasn't appeared elsewhere in this forum, but maybe people would find the scripts useful.
