Put LC_MESSAGES in /etc/environment file. This will set it for system-wide use. If you want it only for user, then you can set it in your ~/.bashrc_profile file.

How could i change the LC_MESSAGES variable globaly to all users so it will be LC_MESSAGES=es on my remastered version of KNOPPIX...
also how could i change the default knoppix user for something else?
