Navigate to the boot menu in your BIOS and make sure that the CD (or ATAPI CD) is set to be the first device in the boot order.
Save your changes and exit
Put the CD in the drive and reboot the computer.
knoppix should pop right up if all your hardware is supported.
If you have problems, you may be able to overcome them with the judicious application of some of the boot cheatcodes (http://www.knoppix.net/docs/index.php/CheatCodes). For more info on using knoppix, see the documentation library (http://www.knoppix.net/docs/).

Bummer- so did it actually go BOOM or did it die a quiet death? It is possible to blow your monitor by telling it to use vertical and horizontal refresh rates that are too far out of the spectrum for your particular monitor to handle but I have never heard of Knoppix doing this as it probes to see what rates it will use. Of course I can't say it's impossible and if your monitor was working fine until you booted the cd then it would point to the disk eh? Very interesting.
