I hope this isn't seen as spamming or anything, if so, please delete this. I'm not interested in how many hits I get but I would really appreciate it if any Linux "oldbies" read it and correct any inconsistencies so far. I think I've summed it up reasonably well though. I'm basically trying to "dumb down" the whole Linux thing and show that it's not impossible for the general public to get involved in (like I did), while still maintaining that there's a lot of work involved. I've only made two (long) posts so far but I am appreciative to anyone correcting mistakes I make (lets call it an open source blog? lol)
Thanks! And do you know of any similar Linux "blogs"? I can add them to the link list when I get the hang of it. I know about the Linux Audio Blog but that's it! Cheers.

Looks fine.
I would to point out another one that would be helpful to newb either experts: http://linuxhelp.blogspot.com/
bye, max
Thanks Max! I will add that when I do some work on it soon.
I've got Kanotix hd'd and I love it to the tenth power. Do it on a hard drive larger the 3.5 gb, though...i had it on one of those originally and livecds dont let you choose what to install, so i had a bunch of obscure packages pissing me off. Gentoo...Just fucking sucks. I got it installed fine...But I wasn't sure of the hardware support I needed with it, so i couldn't get to my pci sound card or modem...and it blew.
Cheers Kowood, hopefully it works with my hardware. I've got high hopes for it but then again, I read where it's aiming to cover people who have new hardware. And my PC is rather old (lets say a year and a half). But still, I have my hopes. Guess I just have to wait and try it. OK here is a highly technical question to more experienced people: How come SUSE can get this all figured out, my soundcard works great, and it detects all my hard drives in SUSE, why is that? I mean, it's all open source and whatever, how come Knoppix can't see that? (It sees hard drives fine but the soundcard is the issue) Is there some way to scrape the SUSE info and use it in Knoppix? Can I somehow copy it's configuration to Knoppix? Probably a dumb question.
wow, your blog goes threw alot of stuff...
Baby turtle are soo cool...
my pc is older. (2000) and it works lovely with kanotix. A year and a half is nothing. Even 5 years is nothing. I know a kid who makes amazing stuff out of parts from the early 90's. He's got an ftp server screwed to a piece of plywood because he didn't have an extra case.
Chris, they rockIt's from whiteninjacomics.com (funniest web comic EVER)
Kowood, haha cool, get some pics of that please! And you were right! I wiped Knoppix today and put Kanotix on after trying it "Live". I still have some sound issues to work out but I got it all working perfectly using the Live CD, so I guess I just have to fiddle around a bit. It's kind of hard because I really really don't understand how sound works in Linux (just can't get my head around this stuff...ALSA, OSS? Hell, I dunno). I set it all up the same as I did when I was using the live CD but, no system sounds when installed to HD. Still, it gives me something to do tonight! Thanks again for the feedback, guys.
