First of all, Welcome to Knoppix...

    Now, on to business...

Monitor looks fine, but, that is only half of the equation, what about your video card? It takes both, working together, to get it to work...

What is your video card, and is it being reported correctly in Knoppix? If your video card is being reported as a "generic", it may not allow you to go to higher resolutions, unless you get that working "up to par"...

Check the XFree file for the video card, or use Control Center... If your video card is not supported in the "standard" video drivers, as mine isnt, you may have to install video drivers to gain the full potential of your specific video, as I had to do - My card is a NVidia GeForce4 MX440 - and though NVidia is supported, it did not include drivers for my model...

If Knoppix is not reporting your video correctly, you might try Searching Knoppix.net and seeing if anyone else is having issues with your same video card, they may have already gotten resolves on it

    Hope this helps,
    Ms. Cuddles

    Ok....

Mine is ALSO a nVidia Gefore4 440 MMX, and I have installed it with the original drivers from nVidias website, and have made the changed, in the XFree86-4 file (driver "nvidia")

But one thing that I do not undertand, is that when Knoppix is booting, just below the penguin, about 10 lines down... it writes:
    Using Modes: "1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"

So it's configurating my monitor or videocard BEFORE the XFree86-4 file comes in action!

Could it be that there is some sort of configuration file, that has to be edited also???

I dont think thats the issue, I think that is for "text mode", I get the same output, but, then when X comes up, the XFree config gets loaded and the GUI changes into higher resolution... Or so it does in my setup... I know I am running in at least 12xx by 1024, possibly even the 16xx by whatever - I have found by "poking" around in "Control Center", under the "Display" area, can mess up my driver and force it down to something like 800 x 600, yuck!

If I have to examine my settings, I use "Info Center", less chance of KDE changing something on my display, and forcing me down to lower resolutions...

No clue why its not working - I think I'm using the "newest" NVidia drivers from the site, and have forced them into the kernel - can you run glxgears ? If you dont have 3d active, it wont run at all...
