open a terminal:
xedit /debian_version
Just curious
Steve
open a terminal:
xedit /debian_version
Tried :
xedit /debian_version
It thinks I am asking for a file or directory and tells me there is no such thing
Steve
DOH! - sorry
xedit /etc/debian_version
Well, I did "emacs -nw /etc/debian_version" (as well as using xedit ).
All it told me was
"testing/unstable"
Is that all it is supposed to tell me?
If so, is there a way to get a version number ( besides going to debian.org and looking at the numbers they have for testing/unstable)?
Steve
Knoppix (as far as I know) isn't based on any one release- it's a combination of the best software (decided by Klaus et. al.). When you mix testing/unstable branches you create new challenges for yourself. Knoppix wasn't as easy as compressing a release, making it bootable and posting the .iso for download. You could always join the mailing list and ask.

You can see which sources are/were used by looking in the /etc/apt/sources.list file
It is quite a long list and there is no single version version of Debian on which Knoppix is based, it actually are serveral versions of Debian and some extra's
