Why not using BitTorrent as fast+cheap distribution system?

    Hi,

I'm asking me why is nobody using the great http://bitconjurer.org/BitTorrent/ distribution system.

I can't see any disadvantages, only benefits.

BitTorrent will eliminate any bandwidth issue.
BitTorrent has limitless scalability == super fast downloading.
All the downloaders "pay" for the download with there upload capacity.
No mirror has the burden of a rush of downloaders for a new version.
The .iso file integrity is guaranteed with SHA1 sum.

Why not using BitTorrent as optional distribution system for the Knoppix ISOs ?

    Update:
    Article on Slashdot:
    http://slashdot.org/article.pl?sid=0...nested&tid=110

    Update:
Knoppix ISOs now available via BitTorrent:

    regards
    Ayn

A "real" filehsaring system such as LMule seems to be better because it keeps uploading even when the download is complete. (You can achieve the same by leaving the BitTorrent downloader open after the download is complete but who does so after every reboot...)

So, I would recommend LMule instead of BitTorrent.

    Look at the Linux screenshot:

It is no Problem with closing Client after download.
I have talked to some of the Knoppix Mirror Servers Admins.
And some are willing to run a BitTorrent "servers", so there are always
enough "seeds" for a fast download.

Your turn, what else stop us using BitTorrent ?

    regards,
    Ayn
