Wireless Media Station

Hi - please forgive if this has been covered before but I did see any posts that specifically covered this

I am looking to recycle a laptop into a diskless media player that would in turn be connected to my stereo. This laptop would have a Wireless PCMCIA card and NO HARDRIVE. System would boot and map a network drive where the audio files (mp3 mostly) reside and which could then be played with XMMS. The ability to control remotely with a remote desktop session would also be key.

This seems so obvious that someone must have remastered a version to do this. Or perhaps they use the tools in the standard Knoppix distro to accomplish this? Either way, any data or tips would be appreciated. It would also be nice to have the system load and get IP/map drives/start remote desktop service etc w/o having to manually configure each time system boots.
