Newish laptops running Knoppix -- pls post here

Version 4.0 works with Hp Pavilion zd7000. i had some boot problems initally but using 'knoppix nopcmcia' fixes whatever the problem was

I got my Dell Inspiron 2200 running on Knoppix 4.0.2. Most of the devices loaded with no fuss.

I did however have problems recognizing the Dell Wireless 1370 Internal Wireless card. For that I added the config setup steps in my knoppix.sh script on my USB flash media stick so it can do wireless on startup. It easy to setup the wireless manually if you have the bcmwl5a drivers handy and install them via the ndiswrapper script. Then you can run netcardconfig and you're up.

Another issue I'm having is the power management stuff. When I close the lid on the laptop, the system goes into an unrecoverable hiberation-like state. Luckily, I can power down pretty easily in knoppix since most of the corruptable stuff pushed to memory, but it's annoying nonetheless. I did encounter the same problem occasionally when I'd close the lid in WinXP Pro. I might need to update the BIOS or something. Any suggestions are welcome as I really haven't explored this section in depth yet.

Pherhaps allready an oldy but still widely used here, 1ghz Pentium 3 processor
512 mb of ram, 20 gig drive and DVD drive.

Knoppix 3.6 and 4.02 used, both worked without problem, network recognized.
Weird thing, 4.02 installs but on two installs (out of 5) it installs in a lower resolution
(640x480 io 1024x76 no real problem, just adjust the xfconfig as root.

Kanotix 2005.1 works without problems and as a bonus activates the hotkeys for
the soundbuttons.

No luck on getting the tv-out to work..... Yet...

Have it HDD install on my HP Pavilion ze5600 - 2.6ghz 768RAM 30gb HDD. KnoppixV4.0.2

No problems with the install whatsoever. Everything is working, networking, cdrom, mouse pad, lcd @ 1024x768.

Have knoppix 4.2 running on a new HP dv8000 with no problem - installed to HD not problem but I must an external mouse instead of the touch pad and the dvd drive does not work - which I find strange since it worked fine off the live-dvd. The native wireless card does not work but a D-Link AirplusG (DWL-g630) work right out of the box no problem. Hardwire to the internet was also no problem. USB external hard drives are also no problem.

Anyone have any ideas on the dvd drive?

Also, I want to use a Netgear USB wireless adapter as well but no luck.

I am running an Acer Travelmate 4652 using Knoppix 5.0.1.

This version will boot fully, but with a black screen unless I use the cheat code acpi=off. Using this code, everything boots normally.

I was under the impression that this is most probably an issue with my notebook. However, I booted with GRML, and noted that acpi works in GRML. I receive the following success messages when booting GRML -

ACPI Bios found, activating modules.
ac battery button container fan hotkey processor thermal video
Starting acpidaemon

If it works under GRML, I'm sure that Knoppix could be fixed so that acpi could work with it also.

Sound works fine
all system peripherals work fine with the exception of my Ethernet connection and my intel pro wireless 2200bg wireless connection, neither of them can be configured in any way I've found;

mbox 2 doesn't work (audio interface) but that is to be expected, since it only works in conjunction with ProTools

I'd really love to get my wireless/Ethernet working, but I've not been able to figure it out thus far.

Acer Travelmate 2424. It boots up knoppix 4.0.2 and works fine except for wireless. Strangely GRML which was based on knoppix, works well including wireless right out of the box.

EDIT: Tested Ubuntu 6.06. It worked really well with my Acer 2424 right out of the box.
