First things first:
Do you have a Beginner or Debian style hdinstall?
Are you doing this as root?
Have you got /var on a separate partition which is mounted read-only?
Hi!
Does anyone know why I get following errors when running apt-get (no matter whether if I remove, install or update) the command line?
W: Not using locking for read only lock file /var/lib/dpkg/lock
E: Unable to write to /var/cache/apt/
E: The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.
Do you have an idea what the problem could be? Do you need more information?

have u logged in as root?
of course as root, but from the cd.
I thought it was possible to do that, too.
Isn't it?
No, you cannot apt-get from the CD because it is read only. To add applications when running from CD you must have a persistent home & use klik.Originally Posted by sunpascal
