    Torrent for Knoppix+QEMU

BitTorrent does 'sha1' checking internally. If it says that you have a 100% download, then it's right.
(You can make it check again by re-downloading the torrent file from http://home.btconnect.com/chrisandcarolyn/torrents/ ; I promise you that's the one I put there; and re-running your torrent client)

Yes, all you get is an '.iso' . It is the original ISO, with a few files added (look in the qemu* directory) so that it carries its PC emulator, virtual BIOS, and virtual graphics adapter along with it so that it can 'autorun' under Windows. If you have an original CeBIT CD, you can use a file comparison tool ('diff' would work, after a fashion) to check what the changes are.

The tracker did a self-denial-of-service ... so many seeds all trying to contact it every 5 minutes used up all its bandwidth ... for a while. It should be back now.

where to find boot boot floppix for knoppix 3.8

i'd like to find or create some bootfloppies for knoppix 3.8 because i'd like to use it as a Xserver on an old laptop (p166,8MBram,800x600,ethernet...)
it's not my laptop so i can't write on the disc so i have to use a live cd
but it has not the capability to boot on cd
it was booting corectely with the 3.7 with floppiesdisc but in this distributions, i can't write on files las in the 3.8(for changing the config files of the X server) so i need knoppix 3.8
(the cd rom dont't even support rw cd lol)

That doesn't seem to be the problem. I tried QEMU with Knoppix 3.7 booting with the 2.4 kernel and it was about the same speed as using the 2.6 kernel. I then tried it in a P4 2.8 GHz machine and it was almost just as slow as my P4 1.4 GHz machine using the 2.4 kernel. The 2.8 GHz P4 has 1GB of RAM, but when I try using 512MB with QEMU, it crashes. It will work with 384MB of RAM but doesn't seem to run any faster than with 256MB of RAM.

What kind of system are you running QEMU on? Knoppix wether with 2.4 kernel or 2.6 kernel runs unusably slow on both of my systems. I take it that it runs reasonably fast for you?

    about using 3.8

Can someone tell me how to change the keyboard from german to american? Any other tips for an american user with limited knowledge of german? I'm reasonably comfortable with linux at the command line.

Recommended reading: There's a text file called "knoppix-cheatcodes.txt" both on the Knoppix CD itself, and on all the download mirrors (here, for example). Among other things, it will tell you how to change the keyboard layout from "de" (German) to "us" (American) and how to change the default language from "de" to "us". It even tells you how to type "=" using a German keyboard layout.
