Is the NordisKnoppix dead or too old ?

Theres a page that talks about a nordic version of knoppix:
    http://home.broadpark.no/~aklepp/new...isknoppix.html
which sounds great for me as i want swedish language support ... but is this an outdated version?
I am downloading it now from funet.fi, and the only ISO i could see says 2003-09-24

Can i get swedish characters (öäå ÖÄÅ) in the normal and newest version of the normal knoppix ?

If there is a syntax to enter at startup, thats fine with me, it doesnt need to be automatic.

Also, i've read about the methods of making nordisknoppix boot with a specific language as default, using a boot image. (check http://files.akl.lt/knoppix/boot-flo...ative-language)
Could i do this with a normal knoppix too? are the boot images the same, i.e. could i take the boot-se.img file from http://files.akl.lt/knoppix/boot-floppies/, and copy it into the present knoppix version and then burn it?

    peace

Hi, I have the knoppix hacks book and from my read of language support you should be able to get swedish characters in knoppix.
I might be wrong these are the language options with version 3.4 (cheat code) " knoppix lang=cn| de | da | es | fr | it | nl | pl | ru | sk |
    tr | tw | us

I also checked in kde and under region it gave the option to change to swedish language. I don't know if you would need to install
different fonts, you might need to, but given that this is debain based i.e international I believe that using dselect you could get those
    if you needed them.

Hope this helps and good luck

the fonts work great in Swedisj. no need to install anything. and you can get Swedish in the console by typing
    Code:
    loadkeys se.latin1.kmap
and in KDE you can use kontrolcenter to change kbdlayout.

    Great! Thanks for your information!

I must ask then, what is the general idea of the nordiknoppix according to you?
On the webpage they say something that i dont completely understand:

    supported languages include
    [bla bla bla]
to the extent that Debian packages for these languages are available, and that they fit on the CD.
Aside from the Nordic/Baltic language components, NordisKnoppix is the same as standard Knoppix.

What does this mean? Is there such a thing as nordic debian packages ? If i want to install, for instance, Centericq on a normal debian machine, i do an apt-get install centericq, but there is no choice of swedish package there....

i use centericq every day, works great, no need to look fo a Nordic version, by the way, i am Swedish so i use that language.
sadly not all languages are translated yet. but the caracters/fonts should work as usuall. just that menues... wil be english in some programs.
