recovery tool for HDDs

hi,

im looking for a HDD recovery tool for linux / knoppix

i got a crashed HDD (OS was WinXP).
booted up with knoppix.
HDD is detected and accessable

the problem is:
some folders are corrupt.
MC shows them with "?name"

can someone recommend me a tool / utility the restores brocken data?

Heh - Knoppix is the recovery tool!

What's the state of XP now - will it boot?

How badly do you want to recover what's in the folders? And which folders - not Windows, I hope?

How is the computer configured - one HD, XP only? One CD Drive? Other mass storage such as CF or SD slots? Do you have any little keychain drives to put in USB slots (and are the slots USB 1.1 or 2)?
