it might be a reference to the loopback 127.0.0.1 connection ?
Hi,
Am using knoppix 3.8.1 on a Dell Inspiron 700m, which has a wired NIC and a wireless NIC.
During the startup process knoppix "finds" 3 connections: eth0, eth1 and eth2.
I have been able to get the 2 "real" connections to work. In my case eth1 is the Intel Pro/Wirelss 2200 and eth2 is the Broadcom wired NIC.
Anyone have an idea what the eth0 could be - or what utility, etc. I can use to figure this out?
Regards,
Geoff.
it might be a reference to the loopback 127.0.0.1 connection ?
Thanks for the suggestion.
Sorry to sound so thick but how would I confirm (or not) that this is the reason for the extra eth?
Thanks,
Geoff
Actually, I rather doubt that it is, all systems can use 127.0.0.1 as a loopback address, but all sure don't have an extra interface show up. I don't know what it is though. You might want to watch closely during the boot process or even boot in expert mode and watch each step. 3.8.1 has been detecting firewire interfaces that are not really there, which may have something to do with it, or you might even really have a firewaire interface in that computer (firewire tends to show up as a network interface).Originally Posted by gjhicks
