Paste in here the part about your Ethernet controller from the command lspci -v

Also have you ran netcardconfig? Should also be under the Knoppix menu item.

Does the command lsmod list a e100 or eepro100 module. If not, try first sudo modprobe eepro100 and if netcardconfig still doesn't work, try with e100.

I need help from someone who actually runs knoppix on the hd. Does knoppix use /etc/modules-$(uname -r) or modules.conf or modutils or what?
You add it to the file that loads the modules and run update-modules. I just don't know what file(s) knoppix uses for it.
You can also try adding it with sudo modconf

Do you mean root login to KDE? You should NOT login as root to KDE, instead use su, sux or kdesu.

NOT SUPPORTED NETWORK CARDS FOUND - Knoppix 3.8.1

    Markus.

I know you said, in Knoppix 3.4 (my installed old version ), permits me to login like root and with a diferent user, in that version of knoppix I had to execute "netcardconfig" to start eth0, this is my actual problem. In Knoppix 3.8 the situation is the same, and I really don't like to do it each time

    Thanks a lot..... Frank

Hmm, not sure if I'm the right person to answer this since I've never had any networking problems with knoppix/kanotix.
When you boot up now, is the NIC recognised?
What does ifconfig say before running netcardconfig?
Does "ifup eth0" help? If not, do "pump -i eth0" after and check the network.
If ifup and pump make it work, you might as well put those lines at the end of /etc/init.d/bootmisc.sh

About logging in as root, you have to open a console anyway to run netcardconfig, so why not su first and then run it, or use "sudo netcardconfig"

NOT SUPPORTED NETWORK CARDS FOUND - Knoppix 3.8.1

I don't like to manage the bootmisc.sh..... is too deep to me.

But if I run "modconf" and select eepro100, for my netcard...... it configure all the next sessions ? or i have to execute "modconf" each session ?

If I run "update-modules", It make the change permanent ?

I can believe that exist a way to recognize and up the card without the comands by user..... but how i said at the begining ... i am a new user
