Will happily help you about creating users: you are using KDE? Kmenu>system>kuser (user manager)

The modem, I am assuming that is a winmodem. I have had only the smallest of success with them myself though others have done better. Check out the networking forum here. Or linmodem.org. Or, much easier - find yourself a nice little external SERIAL connected modem. Makes it so much simpler. Been awhile since I setup a modem in debian - I have switched to cable. But I believe it was as easy (when using a hardware, external modem) as choosing the device ttyS0 with the KPPP program.

I'm using Knoppix 3.8.1 en from HD installation

I created a account in kuser, first i had to change the ID to 1001 so it could be seen in the login screen. but when u sign in with the account i created, it says something about some server is not running or something. then it just logs off back to logon scren. The new account has same settings as me, exactly same except for the ID. mine is 1000 & new one has 1001. how do i make it work??

also everytime i open kuser or most of the applications, it asks me for root password. I'm getting sick of it typing everytime i open some application. how can i disable that?? before i couldn't even open lilo.conf until i added all the user groups in my account... now i can open lilo.conf but can't save the settings. how do i save the settings ??. I'm just noob to linux.. don't know much about it . thnx guys.
