    booting from usb cd

    hello everyone
    i have a thinkpad x20 laptop, the cd and floppy drive are connected to the laptop through a bay ( ibm bay 2000 ) using a usb or pcmcia cable http://www-3.ibm.com/pc/support/site....html?doctype=. i can use only one drive in the bay ( floppy or cd drive). i was trying to boot from knoppix 3.2 cd (30 march 2003). i used the usb cable (can't boot with the pcmcia cable) and i can boot from knoppix cd, but while booting i get message ' cd not found' and i had options prompts : mount, umount..
    so my question is : how to mount the usb cdrom and can i add that to the boot.img in the cfg file.

    --If you have 700MB free space on the HD, your best bet is to copy the big Knoppix file from CD to c:\knoppix directory, and use the ' mkfloppy.bat ' file to make a bootdisk, which you then use to boot Knoppix.

    --Knoppix does not search for USB or PCMCIA CD drives to boot from.

    booting knoppix live using thinkpadx20 laptop and usb connec

    i believe that helping each other is a way to help him self, so i post my experience and hope that it will help other

    i have a laptop thinkpad x20 to connect the cd or the floppy i use an ibm bay2000 using a pcmcia cable or usb one. i udated my bios the the new version. the bios detect the bay and by the way the cd drive or the floppy.
    knoppix boot but i get a message telling that knoppix couldn't find the cd and by reading the forum they told me that knoppix couldn't boot using usb or pcmcia conncetion.
    the only solution for that is to coppy the knoppix folder from the cd to the bootable partition in the hdd ( c: ) and then reboot the laptop with the knoppix cd in the cd drive, the cd will look and start knoppix from the partion were you copied the knoppix folder
    if you couldn't boot from the cd using the usb cable, boot your windowz with the usb cable connected to the laptop and the bay and then shudown and reboot and everything will be ok
    i hope i was enough clear and if someone need some help he is welcome

    note : i tried to boot using the knoppix floppy but it failes, thats why i used the knoppix cd to boot

    The bad can be good

    For those with regular CD-ROM, a floppy is needed in addition to copy the KNOPPIX to C:\. With this setup, the original KNOPPIX CD can be used directly as the boot device and after KNOPPIX successfully boot, proper driver can be loaded and the CD-ROM become usable again, for other usage, this is not possible for straight booting from CD-ROM
