Passing parameters to the Kernel

I'm trying to sort out a problem with PCMCIA port on my notebook computer.

Extensive Googling has suggested that passing a parameter of the form

reserve=0x3f6fb000,0x5000

might sort out the problem.

Do I do this by typing

knoppix reserve=0x3f6fb000,0x5000

at the boot prompt?
