using 2 install debian from scratch

how would I go about using the knoppix cd to do a debian install from scratch to a pc?

Is there a way to connect to a ftp someware and do a basic install..

I am thinking of this cause I wanna load just deabion on some smaller hd machines and select a basic window manager and open office..

Mainly its would be nice to be able to install my laptop fresh with debian right from stable packages (not unstable ones!)

Just boot-up the CD, click KNOPPIX, click root shell. Then issue the bash command line knx-hdinstall and follow the prompts.

    Debian from scratch from cd

    Thats not what I ment.

See the hd on the othere computer is way too small for the 2 gig limit. and I know I could fit enough on it but I want to use knoppix as a bootup disk to load from the internet so I could load debian from scratch. (instead of downloading the full cd images)

(I have already done the knx-hdinstall)
    on anouthere newer system...

I want to boot into a mode where I can install fresh.
just format , load a very select group of packages.. and thats it

is this possible or do I have to go to debian and download there boot disks (floppies) or burn a debian cd image...

I want to know is knoppix has enough on it to start a fresh load for a debian system setup??!

as much as I love this self booting cd I really would like to load a system with bare debian from scratch since the harddrive is smaller!

The link posted above is my favorite way to install debian. It is a 186meg bootable cd that has the base install and uses about 145meg then you build what you want.I have seen some talk about using Knoppix to install debian but I have not done it.

    so its possible..

Yes .. but without downloading the 185 meg file..

So its possible or is this just a rummor..

This is what i want to know.,.

Cause that would rock if I could do a clean system from the internet using knoppix.

It would mean knoppix not only can do everything in a bkup repair mode but could load from scratch as well...

Anyone know how?! if its possible.. anyone able to give a definate answer if its possible or not?!

While its true that knoppix "becomes a normal debian install" after running knx-hdinstall you didnt read his other post

[snip] See the hd on the othere computer is way too small for the 2 gig limit. and I know I could fit enough on it but I want to use knoppix as a bootup disk to load from the internet so I could load debian from scratch. (instead of downloading the full cd images) [snip]

a 2 gig hdd is NOT big enough to run the knx-hdinstall script and thats why I recomended the excelent mini woody iso but he didnt bite on that.

so he could just download a couple of floppies and do a net install but I like to have the cd so if it was me I would do (what I already did) and remaster knoppix to fit on a 245 meg mini cd that installes to hdd.I am on it now and it rox...has over 600meg of goodies...its not yet for download but the info to build one is on my homepage http://home.bellsouth.net/p/PWP-tech2k
