Why Knoppix 3.9 is so slow???

I installed the Knoppix 3.9 on the laptop, it takes a very long long time to login, about 10 minutes,
it fisrt stalled at "initializing system services" with twinking gears-button, then the screen came up, staying here for about 3 minutes, then a blank task bar for another 2 minutes, then it wakes up!
I moniter the CPU usage from internet by "top", it shows that the CPU is all 99.7% Idle during that time! What the hell are the system doing?!

You installed Knoppix 3.9 to the HD and now its is not running off the CD? Then unless you already have done so, you will need to fix the networking. There is a bug documented as #15 http://www.knoppix.net/wiki/Bugs/3.9-2005-05-27 and can be resolved by entering the command as root user:
ln -s /etc/init.d/ifupdown-clean /etc/rcS.d/S18ifupdown-clean

This bug is known to make Knoppix boot and load up very slowly. A reboot should indicate if it hasd been resolved.

That does not work. If I add such link, the X-window even cannot start!
