    Changing MAC adress

    Hello

I'm a begginer with Linux. I just grabbed a live distribution of Knoppix and i'd like to know how can I change my MAC adress or if it is possible.

    I tried
    Code:
    ifconfig eth0 hw ether 00:05:11:17:25:34
    but it gives me
    SIOCSIFHWADDR Op not permitted

    When type
    Code:
     ifconfig eth0 down
i get the "SIOCSIFFLAGS Permission denied" message.

    "SIOCSIFFLAGS Permission denied"
This usually means that it is only permitted if you are a root (adminitstrator) user. So I use sudo to run administrative commands.
    Code:
    sudo ifconfig eth down
sudo ifconfig eth0 hw ether 00:05:11:17:25:34
    sudo ifconfig eth0 up
