    Burn ISO Image to CD

I have B's Recorder Gold as my CD burning software. I have downloaded the KNOPPIX_V3.2-2003-04-18-EN.iso file and checksums is okay. If I drag and drop the .iso file to the software (as their tech support said to do) then all I get is a CD with the .iso file on it. Nothing boots at startup. (I have my bios set to allow boot from CD.)

How do I get a bootable CD to run Knoppix?

I'm a newbie at this and will need somewhat detailed instructions. I've read some other posts about extracting the iso file and burning the files to the CD, but I have no idea how to extract iso file data.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Andrew

let me be absolutely clear. You do NOT want to extract the ISO and then burn the files to the CD. If you do that, it won't be bootable without doing a bunch of other stuff. It is possible, but unles you plan on adding/removing files, it's a HUGE waste of time and prbably beyond your ability.

What you need is better CD burning software.

Since you said you are a newbie, I'll assume you are using Windows at the moment. If that's true, I reccomend Roxio Easy CD Creator or NERO BurningROM. Personaly, nero is my favorite. I believe there are trial versions of both.

If you are using NERO, you do the following.

    1. Open the program.
    2. Close the wizard. (if it's open)
    3. Close the "new compilation" dialog (if it's open)
    4. click file
    5. click burn image
    6. browse to wherever you put the iso file
    7. click OK
    8. THere's a good chance you will get an error telling you the .iso is too large to burn without closeing the CD, whitch will ask you if you want to close it. just click okay and wait.

In general, it should take 80 minutes divided by the speed of your CD burner, plus 1-3 minutes to fill all the buffers and another 1-3 mintues to finalize the CD.

    That's it.

If you want to use R.E.C.D.C., you will need to ask somebody else as I don't realy like or use that program.

If you are running linux, the process will be similar, but I've never heard of B's recorder Gold for windows or linux, and given the fact that the tech support guy told you to do a drag and drop burn of an .iso, I'd say you don't want to use it anymore, because they can't even hire cometant tech support..

You need to look in your program for an option that says create CD from ISO image or something similar.

On WinXP you can try free ISO Recorder Power Toy (using the built-in Windows XP CD burner). For other windows operating systems try CDBurnerXP Pro. Freeware too.

Thank you all. Acually I found it shortly after I made this post, but I didn't have time to write back. There is a drag-n-drop track info field where you can drag the iso image. After that, it's burn as usual. (It literally takes 10 seconds or less to start the burning - once you know what to do.) When I can get back home, I'll post specifically what to do.

FYI, B's Recorder Gold seems to use the same engine as Nero. They are probably in league somewhere along the production line. The explorer view is a little different, but the wizard is exactly the same.

But I'm glad I made this post. I want to try out goba's CDBurnerXP Pro.

    Thanks again,
    Andrew

In Roxio if you browse to the .iso file, double click on it, Roxio knows automatically how to burn it and the you basically click OK to burn it.

Make sure the "Finalize CD (no further writing possible)" box is checked.

There's a step-by-step guide to buring Linux ISO's with Nero at
    http://www.linuxiso.org/viewdoc.php/neroburning.html
(use the second list of instructions).

Be aware it was written for Nero v5, not v6. The only difference is that, in version 6, Nero's moved the "Burn Image..." menu choice from the File menu to the Recorder menu.
