Verifying of md5 checksum and burning a CD at slow speed are important.
Is 4.0 better?
or is there an upgrade for this?
This seems to be a real issue with Linux.
I'm using the dual-kernel 3.7 version of Knopix.
I noticed that I have full use of my external USB DVD-rw in Knoppix 3.7 (HDD install) using the 2.4 kernel. I can burn CDs, DVDs, play DVDS, etc.
But when I tried to install the same burner using the 2.6.9 kernel the "lsusb" command sees the drive as an "sda" drive. I can mount it and read it but it does not have burning abilities.
(Version 3.7 was the last to use two kernels, BTW.)
Kinda weird. Seems like a later kernel should add MORE hardware support. Not less.
So I continue to use the 2.4 kernel. Frustrating.

I figured out a workaround!
I put my usb dvd burner on the other windosw box and converted all my fav dvd's to mp4 and slapped them on cd's![]()
