No monitor

recently tried to run knoppix 3.6 from a cd on a hp with a savage video card. it "booted" and then just prior to seeing the desktop the screen goes black nothing works...keyboard mouse even the eject button on the cd doesnt work....i push the power button...and the desktop appears for about 10 seconds and them it powers down...i am a complete and total newbie....any help would be appreciated...

I had the same! normally when you use failsafe in the knoppix prompt it should work, but then it can happen that not all other stuff is recognized!! try knoppix screen=800x600 depth=8! Send me a PM if needed since I do not follow this thread.. if this does not work start in prompt with expert (not knoppix expert) and then when it asks you to re-configure your X11 system, try that!!
