There are a lot of threads on here about people having trouble with their hd install of Knoppix....Installing from livecds is a bad idea....You get shit for optimizations....It's bloated...And amazingly slow....If you're looking for a n00b-friendly distro, I reccomend Ubuntu http://ubuntulinux.org. Like Knoppix and Kanotix, it's Debian-based, but meant for a hard drive install. Plus, it's ported to Amd64 and PPC...So Amd64 owners don't have to use a distro optimized for an architecture that's older than them, and Mac users can ogg that poor excuse for a UNIX os. I'm not by any means intending to bash Knoppix here, it's a great livecd, faster than most livecds, and a lot more n00b-friendly as such, but is a rather bad choice for an install. ^_^
