hello community,

i installed knoppix 3.9 2005-05-27 to my harddrive and nearly everthing works fine. I have a big problem with my usb harddrive. when i connect it /var/log/messages (allso dmesg ) says:

Code:
Nov 4 23:08:49 server kernel: usb 1-2: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address 6
Nov 4 23:08:50 server kernel: ub: sizeof ub_scsi_cmd 64 ub_dev 2504
Nov 4 23:08:50 server kernel: uba: resid 8 len 8 act 8
Nov 4 23:08:50 server kernel: ub: reading capacity: error -5
Nov 4 23:08:50 server kernel: uba: resid 8 len 8 act 8
Nov 4 23:08:50 server kernel: ub: reading capacity: error -5
Nov 4 23:08:50 server kernel: uba: device 6 capacity nsec 0 bsize 512
Nov 4 23:08:50 server kernel: usbcore: registered new driver ub
Nov 4 23:08:50 server usb.agent[23494]: ub: loaded successfully
cat /proc/partitions don't find any ub* or sd* device, the same with fdisk.

this harddrive has two partitions: one with fat and a big one with ext2. It don't seem to be a prob with the disk, it works fine on my other linux sys and on windows ( all other usb-devices, scanner, camera and mediaplayer work fine on this knoppix install ).

I have no idea where my sda* devices went on the other system i mount with /dev/sda* ( older kernel ).

and i'm a little bit confused about these reading capacity errors.

hope for help

regards
