this is probably off-topic but its important

i didnt know where to post this but i want to post it...anyway i was trying to edit the boot screen for windows xp and i did so and it worked but i had 2 files of the boot screen (one configured for SP1 and one not) so anyway i put them both and now when i boot xp if just restarts and says the one that isnt configured for xp is currupt (im sure your asking What does this have to do with knoppix or Knoppix support well it kind of does and doesnt but i would appreciate it if i could get help without being complained at) so i decided to boot in knoppix and delete the file (since i cant even boot safe mode) but knoppix must not have permission to delete it ... is there any way possible to delete this file? ...if so could someone PLEASE tell me , thanx (very much) in advance

well no from looking around i found that write support is available (although it could ruin everything) from redhat but when i try to install redhat it doesnt detect a hard drive at all so ill just reinstall windows (which is something i REALLY wanted to avoid but oh well looks like that the only choice) anyway, thanx to both of you

I guess I should have said no official version, that support is experimental and really not at all recomended as you have read.

I am not sure I understand your problem, but if you nicked your
NT/2000/XP bootloader, you might be interested in the following:

I am also not sure if i completely understand your problem but........If Linux can't do it there is a dos app that can mount an NTFS drive in read write mode....the free (but read only) version is here http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/fr...fsdospro.shtml
The paid version is quite pricey running in at $299 American dollars (http://www.winternals.com/products/r...ntfsdospro.asp). That is very expensive.....An alternative would be to backup your entire drive to another drive (Knoopix has this i believe it is called partition image) then try and remove the file using Knoppix....if it works Great! if not then restore the backup. (Note: at the very least you can pull your needed data off the busted XP install and format) There is also another solution that is also expensive running in at $399 American dollars ...(http://www.winternals.com/products/r...mander2002.asp) ERD Commander.....it is a very stripped down version of XP that loads into memory....I won't even compare it with Knoppix. But that allows you to change the file structure of NTFS drives as well.

Wow I hope that was clear enough for ya
