Linux Newbie.. Help ! every programs just hang

Hello everyone , i have heard of knoppix from a television program and i have requested for a cd. When i got the cd, i boot it on my labtop. it was able to startup to the os. But after that , everything just freeze..

seems like it's not as great as the tv says ..

As you can see, mine Linux works "as great as the tv says" I connect to Internet over ADSL and so on. Go to http://www.knoppix.net/wiki/ and read something about Knoppix, maybe you will find some help.
