Boot freezes at "Ok, booting the kernel"

Hi, please forgive the newbie question, but I just started using Knoppix, and it's been a while since I've used Linux.

I am using Knoppix-STD 0.1 and when I boot from the CD, I use:

    knoppix vga=normal

    Then I see:

    Loading vmlinuz...
    Loading miniroot.gz...
    Ready.
    Uncompressing Linux...Ok, booting the kernel.

Then, nothing. The computer just sits there. (If I don't use the "vga=normal" command, the screen blanks out after the "Loading miniroot.gz..." line.)

Am I missing something? I'm not really sure what to do next. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks,
    Tara

    Hi.
Knoppix-STD is not Knoppix. They are two separate projects. Like most software programs, each new release is better than the last. The current release of Knoppix-STD is just about 2 years old, while the current release of Knoppix is version 4.0.2 and is under 3 months old. Knoppix-STD website is http://www.knoppix-std.org/ and you can get suppport for it over there. I would recommend that you try Knoppix 4.0.2 as there are many new features & drivers for improved hardware support in this release.
