Two things where knoppix install is better than kanotix

These two:
1. I'm unable to install this tarball xlockmore-4.09.tar.gz in kanotix. Many error messages and install fail. I only can do: apt-get install xlockmore (in knoppix too ), but in this way I don't instal my favourite 4.09vers (4 or 3 years old) but the last one (by the way, any suggest to install this vers via apt?).

2. To scan with my printer HP-PSC2210 I have to put this config line: ptal-init setup. In knoppix is sufficient one time forever while in kanotix since I've rebboted the computer I need to type again this input every time.

I am a newbie to Linux who occasionally tried out LiveCDs (on occasions to help out Windows users as a means of data recovery). I gradually moved from Knoppix to Kanotix, mainly because I found it better at hardware detection and at times it was the only way I could use to get my ADSL USB modem to connect to the internet. I was generally a 95% Windows user, 5% Linux user. Two weeks ago I took the plunge and installed Kanotix-2005-04-RC17 - the installer was fantastic and I now have a dual-boot XP, Kanotix configuration - except I've stopped using Windows altogether. An upgrade to the full Kanotix-2005-04 and then a dist-upgrade to KDE 3.5 went very smoothly; the Kernel update to 2.6.15 equally so today. I would definitely recommend Kanotix for someone thinking about, but slightly cautious about an installation.

I just downloaded xlockmore-4.09.tar.gz from ftp.x.org and it compiles w/o
errors (albeit some warnings) on my kanotix system. As to apt-get-installing,
have a look at checkinstall: this will build you a *.deb package that you can
install with dpkg -i.

Anything you have to type after rebooting the system can be placed in
/etc/init.d/bootmisc.sh, or if you need to adjust the sequence while booting
make your own script in /etc/init.d and link to it in /etc/rc?.d.
