    soundcard and driver detected, butFATAL error, and no sound

    When booting KNOPPIX 4.0 from DVD, i get the following message:

    soundcard = Vortex 2 driver = au8830
    modprobe : FATAL : Error running install command for sound_slot_0

    So my soundcard doesn't work. Is there something that i can do?
    Maybe an BIOS setting?

    Aureal Vortex 2 chipset w/ snd-au8820 driver

    run alsaconf in su
    follow directions - choose the soundcard - check au8820 driver
    configure alsamixer and/or kmix
    then checkout lsmod to see it installed
