OK, just loaded up knoppix rfom live CD for the first time... the display properties art auto set to 100Hz screen refresh and 640x480 resolution.
I could not change these options through display settings.
Does this mean my graphics card isn't supported or that these are the only supported settings? is there a list of supported video cards? i have shoddy intergrated intel extreme 2 graphics... maybe thats an issue.
Is there a way to get a reasonable screen resolution without buying a new graphics card?
(i would do this anyway but my mobo has been stripped of its PCi-e and AGP slot and a PCI graphics card seems a waste)
I'm sorry if this is in an FAQ, but there is a steep learning curve here. All replies greatly appreciated.

Verifying of md5 checksum and burning a CD at slow speed are important.
