konqueror showing linking error with X-server

I have 2.4.27 kernel version and,knoppix version is 3.7
when i gvie the konqueror and other commands that require X-server, from root or user terminal,
that time system show error "konqueror: cannot connect to X server" plz help me.

Logging out of KDE as a normal user, and then logging in as root from a console, and issuing startx command from there will also enable a graphical interface as user root iirc.
