My advice would be to not download any files from a mirror site, use BitTorrent. For a more complete answer to this question read the entire FAQ referenced in answer #1.
It is important to get the numbers right, and will be even more important when there is a version 5.1. The newest Knoppix version is named 5.0.1. And if you just call this version 5 there will be more confusion, .
Not everyone is happy with 5.0.1, some people have gone back to 4.02. Which is better for you will have to be your own call. But I would actually suggest that you might be better off starting with 4.02, and later try 5.0.1 if a newer version isn't available by then.
Do read all of the Downloading FAQ, we find it covers many problems that first time users hit over and over if they don't read it.

harry, thansk for your reply. But sadly, i can't download it via bittorrent cos i'm using a public server at my school. So i have to download it via mirror site. I've download this file KNOPPIX_V5.0.1CD-2006-06-01-EN.iso, is thisfile correct? and do i need to download th other file, that's is KNOPPIX_V5.0.1CD-2006-06-01-EN.iso.md5 or KNOPPIX_V5.0.1CD-2006-06-01-EN.iso.md5.asc ?

I deliberately didn't say which files to download because you really need to read the FAQ to avoid a lot of other problems, and the FAQ should answer your questions about what files you need and why you need that .md5 file. Too bad about not being able to use BitTorrent, but that is the valid reason why the mirrors are still available, but read the FAQ and use the md5 file. As to the one that ends in md5 or md5.asc, I don't know why the .asc one even exists, since the md5 file is also ascii. Some md5 programs will use the md5 file and do the check for you automatically, in other cases you can just use an md5 program to calculate a sum and do a manual comparision, but if you use a mirror then do one or the other.
