    Updating apt-get disconnects me

Just performed a HD install of knoppix 5.0 for a friend.
Connection is broadband via a alcatel speedtouch modem.
I can browse the internet fine, but running apt-get update from a terminal., or updating the sources via synaptic disconnectsa the internet connection??
    Any ideas?
    /etc/apt/sources.list below
I tried commenting out many sources in case its a particular server, but thanks in advance for help on this one

    Update on Problem

I just thought I'd log in from an alternate console, so typed ctrl-alt-F2 (elimianatingKDE)

This time apt-get update worked as did installing one piece of software, then I was disconnected again??

I dont think KDE has any bearing on the problem, possibly either network congestion or a bad mirror, still browsing web pages works ok. An unusual network
problem this is turning out to be. I have included debug messages now on the speedtch file, this may enlighten the problem

    Knop5.1

So are you suggesting not to use the main menu>System>Kpackage Package Manager.

Updating with this Kpackage mananger gave me so many packages that it seems to have overloaded my 98MB of RAM, because now the Kpackage manager is very very very slow when I am using it to view packages and their content. or is it a bug that happens to the amply RAM enabled, after updating their packages, as well?
However, thanks for all those additional package sources. Nice to have it all in one place.

No, dont use kpackage manage. Instead use Synaptic if you want a graphical front end to apt. Kpackage appears to lack some features, notably search and also a status menu. The status gives you installed, not installed, obsolete pacakes and others a well.

You may find it quicker on the terminal:
    apt-get install mypackage

Im surprised KDE is running with 96M RAM, thought minimum was 128M this is why your system is slow. My original post was about a friends computer, that
    error is fixed now.

    kubuntu

am wondering if the repository for kubuntu is more useful as kubuntu uses KDE whereas ubuntu uses gnome. perhaps this is also the place to search for solutions to USB plugs-in , fstab, updating and upgrading, and wheelmouse problems for knoppix.
