Evolution??
Just out of curiousity has anyone had trouble installing evolution?? I've tried two seperate installations and both don't work. I've read about needing the libs for wombat, but my problem happens right at the apt-get stage:
Sorry, but the following packages have unmet dependencies:
evolution: Depends: libcamel0 (= 1.0.5-1) but it is not going to be installed
Depends: libcamel0 (>= 1.0.5) but it is not going to be installed
Depends: libgal19 (>= 0.19.2) but it is not installable
E: Sorry, broken packages
has anyone has similar problems?

Try this:
apt-get install evolution/unstable
If that doesn't work, then try this:
apt-get -t unstable install evolution
The first option tries to install evolution from unstable, but doesn't necessarily try to install dependencies from there.
The second option will install it from unstable and grab dependencies from unstable.
Most likely either of these options won't cause you any problems but if you want to simulate what will happen before you install you can do this.
apt-get -s install evolution/unstable
or
apt-get -s -t unstable install evolution
Let us know how it goes.

apt-get -s install evolution/unstable
This worked... the other option to just get evolution from unstable still resulted in errors... thank you very much for your help... I'm a bit new to apt-get so I'm shakey on the particulars of it (although I'm absolutely loving how much better life is without RedHat's dependancy hell)

Glad to be of help. You sure the the command you listed was the one that worked though? That should have only simulated an install. I was thinking that "apt-get -t unstable install evolution" would have been the ticked.
If you want to aquaint yourself a bit more with how to use apt-get, you should check out a recent post on the forums which you you can locate here:
http://www.knoppix.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2638#12439
You want to especially read up on the link that
RockMumbles provides.
And yes once you learn how to use apt-get it beats the pants off of the updating methods that accompany other distros (imho). The only way I can use Red Hat without going mad is to install apt4rpm, but even so the repositories aren't set up as well as Debian's.

I'm also interested in using evolution. However while trying to apt-get it, I goofed.
I ran "apt-get install evolution" and when trying to run evolution i get "Cannot initialize the Ximian Evolution shell: Configuration Database not found"
so... I came and found your suggestion of installing the unstable.
when attempting "apt-get -t unstable install evolution" i receive this error message:
Reading Package Lists... Done
Building Dependency Tree... Done
Some packages could not be installed. This may mean that you have
requested an impossible situation or if you are using the unstable
distribution that some required packages have not yet been created
or been moved out of Incoming.
Since you only requested a single operation it is extremely likely that
the package is simply not installable and a bug report against
that package should be filed.
The following information may help to resolve the situation:
Sorry, but the following packages have unmet dependencies:
evolution: Depends: libgnome-pilot1 (>= 0.1.70) but 0.1.64-1 is to be installed
E: Sorry, broken packages
So... hehe I tried uninstalling libgnome-pilot 0.1.64 and apt-get unstable libgnome-pilot1. It reinstalls libgnome-pilot1 0.1.64.
any suggestions? would completely uninstalling all packages installed with evolution and starting over help? if so, how would I accomplish that?
Thanks!

Try this.
apt-get -s remove --purge evolution |less
(the -s option will simulate the removal and tell you exactly what the effects of dong this will be and the purge option will ensure that not only are the evolution files and configurations removed but deleted from your system)
Assuming all went well in the simulation then:
apt-get remove --purge evolution
Then.
apt-get -s -t unstable install evolution
And if all is fine with that simulation then:
apt-get -t unstable install evolution
If this doesn't help, then check out this post

The post you linked solved my problem! Thanks!

Thank you for that post.... I tried the
apt-get -s -t unstable install evolution
That worked perfect for me!!!!
I was lost with out Evolution

I am confused. How can using apt-get -s -t unstable install evolution install the app. I am a noob, but
I was under the impression that the -s option was just a check a simulation to see what will happen before you actually install the app, and not a actual installer.
Can i get clarification to the above command?
Thanks in advance,
paul.
