Segmentation Faulty Tree
Segmentation Faulty Tree
while upgrading synaptic package itself from within synaptic, my internet connection failed
and the update could not be completed. on closing the popup box that told me
this, I find that 60+ packages are now broken. synaptic wont fix them as
holding back is occuring all. still have 32 broken packages.
so into the ternimal shell.
and among other things:
knoppix@Knoppix:~$ sudo apt-get -f install
Reading package lists... Done
Segmentation faulty tree... 50%
knoppix@Knoppix:~$ sudo dpkg --configure -a
knoppix@Knoppix:~$ sudo dpkg --configure -a
knoppix@Knoppix:~$ sudo dpkg --configure -a
knoppix@Knoppix:~$ sudo apt-get -f install
Reading package lists... Done
Segmentation faulty tree... 50%
knoppix@Knoppix:~$
most things still seem to function and the "tree" is said to be clean on the
booting dialog, but the above "faulty tree shell output" dialog persists
past booting.
however,
any suggestions before reinstall of knoppix commences?

FROM ZERO TO 61 BROCKEN PACKAGES IN UNDER 5 MINUTES
FROM ZERO TO 61 BROCKEN PACKAGES IN UNDER 5 MINUTES
"upgrading synaptic package itself": trying to get the latest version of synaptic.
ok so, if I re-install and chose debian instead of knoppix from the knoppix 5.1 CD, will I still get the knoppix gprs/umts connection package in the debian install. if not, how do i get that gprs package into the debian install.
also, I have downloaded other stuff eg. clamav packages, etc. and I do not want to have to redownload them as it takes quite a while on my gprs connection. so where is all this package stuff held and if i copy it to external hard drive can I easily copy the downloaded packages into a new debian install.
perhaps the knop5.1 bugs documentation should include, not a recommendation not to install knoppix, but instead a recommendation not to update/upgrade things.
I AM also WONDERING IF I HAVE THE RECORD FOR THE MOST brocken packages in the shortest time

and knoppix (5.1 faulty tree-ed edition) after a brief tumble brushes off the dust, mounts again and rides off into the sunrise, a little shaken and slightly worse for wear but booting and kicking none the less ![Smile](images/smilies/icon_smile.gif)
you can be sure he will take extra note of low hanging branches emanating from synatpic faulty trees on his next trip over the apatchy pass.
