Trouble backing up HDD partition - Inexperienced Linux user

    Hi,
I'm trying to backup my entire primary system partition by copying everything over to my storage partition on a larger internal HDD (in preparation for a reformat + Windows reinstall). Whilst trying to copy a directory Konqueror comes up with an error box saying "Could not make folder /media/sdb2/[insert directory name here]." Both partitions are formatted with NTFS5.

I'm stumped as why this is happening, I've given read/write permissions to all groups for both partitions.

    Thanks in advance.

It might be appropriate to use the dd command. Not sure since it's different hd's and ntfs. Try it but specify a big enough block size so that the copy doesn't take all day.

Another option is to use the Parted Magic partitioning application. You can download the iso and burn it to a live cd. Copies partitions quite well.
