HTOP is my all-time favorite substitute for the regular "top" utility and would like to propose it be placed in the standard install.
It is the very first thing I download and run after an install, or when using Knoppix to help diagnose problems. You can get the same info from Top, but not as quickly, and for new users, it can bring problems to the forefront immediately without having to know how to decipher top's output.

You can immediately see the status of your cpu(s), memory, swap, and more all at a glance - and since it runs ncurses, is great for servers or knoppix command-line only sessions.
I've got it running on my 5.3.1 session by downloading it from the knoppix repos and having to do a bit of upgrading, but would love to be able to run it without any downloading from future cd/dev releases.
