photorec hung
Hi,
I am trying to recover my data, and I run knoppix 5.0 and
1.created a new directory /var/recovery
2.run photorec as root
3. i chose to put my recoverd files in "/var/recovery"
4. It started to run and dispalyed that it found files and went to "Pass 1", then suddenly the screen went black with the mouse pointer in the middle and am able to move the mouse pointer.
How do I know that it's still running the recovery and will be able to recover my files
Your help will be highly appreciated

Try clicking ctrl-alt-F2 and then typing in Once that display is up, you'll see which processes are using the most resources. If you want to terminate a process in that program, make note of the number and then type k then enter the process number, and 9 for the signal number. Type q to get out. At the flashing prompt, type man top for more on how to use it. Also, note that ctrl-alt-F5 will be needed to switch back to the GUI.
I would recommend switching to Knoppix 6.2.1 - there are a lot of advantages to the newer version, including faster boot.
Cheers!
Krishna
